Fighting the Unseen: Life With Diabetes

Help us find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. Every little bit counts and every single person matters!

How You Can Help

Spread the Word.

There are so many people who do not understand diabetes and its complications, dangers, and stresses.  Many people have the impression that diabetes is "no big deal."   It's hard!

Research the Cure

Assist in any kind of programs that ask for volunteers, bloodwork, and walk-a-thons.  Some programs need non-diabetic people to volunteer their bloodcells for comparison.  Some programs need relatives of diabetics for comparisions.  It's a few hours of your time, but it goes toward saving many many lives.

Please visit: http://www.diabetestrialnet.org/screening/index.htm for more information on clinical trials in your area.

Understand the Disease

Though we may slip up sometimes and fall into bouts of ketoacidosis (extremely high blood sugar), or hypoglycemia, don't pass judgement.  It's not NEARLY as easy as it may seem.  There are so many other factors that lead to rising, or lowering blood glucose levels, that at times it's very difficult to adjust.  There are DAILY adjustments that need to be made.  Did you know that just a little stress can cause high or low blood sugar (depending on the person's automatic reaction to stress)?

Get Involved

Find local diabetes walk-a-thons in your own area.  They are held all over America.  Every little bit counts.  It's a "family" thing.  When you're in the midst of a walk-a-thon, you're all working toward the same goal: a cure.

Please visit: http://walk.jdrf.org/ to find walk a thons near you.
