So, I've had diabetes for over ten years.  I have had a lot of ups and downs with medications, antibodies, rejections, overdoses, ketoacidosis, etc.

Along came my three month check-up a little while back, and my Doctor suggested I start going on Lipitor.  Now, I've been told that my cholesterol has been high for about five years now.  However, even though I'm a diabetic and take injections multiple times a day, I'm still very afraid of medication.  I always HAVE been.

Here's my fear: that i'll start taking Lipitor, won't be ablet to come off it, and it'll inhibit my ability to have children.

My hope is that I'l be able to hold off on starting the new meds long enough to push out a few babies, and then add another "thing to do" on my list of many each day.

I don't care if I start the medication, as unwelcoming as I may sound, but I REFUSE to let anything get in the way of my procreation with my fiance.

Any thoughts?

TRY RED YEAST RICE IT IS SOLD OVER THE COUNTER AND IT DOES HELP LOWER LDL CHOLESTEROL. ALSO TRY TAKING FISH OIL IT HELPS RAISE YOUR HDL WHICH IS THE GOOD ONE AND HELPS LOWER TRIGLICERIDES.

haha... thanks!  Does it taste good?  Is it just like regular rice- I'd just substitute my normal foods with this instead?

IT COMES IN PILL FORM AND I DONT THINK IT HAS ANY TASTE. MOST VITAMIN AND HERBAL SUPPLEMENT STORES CARRY IT.

Good news!  I just got my labs back and I'm down to "normal" cholesterol ranges!  i didnt' really change anything drastic.  I certainly didnt take any medications to bring it down (no Lipitor, thank you very much) and all I did was alter my diet.  Nothing specific, but I've been having much better BG readings.  Wondering if there's a correlation between tighter BG control and cholesterol levels?

Marps, first off congrats on the "normal" results. If you ever encounter high cholesterol again... do me a favor and spend a little time researching FISH OIL. Promise me, okay? No if's and buts.

My old picture is on this board still, I have to update it.

Danny- Thanks!  I just had another test done and it confirmed a cholesterol reading in "normal" range.

I had the Fish Oil on the agenda, but wanted to see if I could do it without the fishy smell.  haha.  I will remember Fish Oil in the future, if the need arises.  My mom has been on Fish Oil supplements for years- as far back as I can remember.
